Paramedic Gives Birth In Her Own Ambulance!

Ambulance girl Lyn Marcham is dreading going back to work after having her baby.

For she gave birth in the back of her own ambulance - helped by her workmates!

"When I go back after my maternity leave, can you imagine all the ribbing I am going to get about it?" she groaned today.

"One thing's for sure,my workmates won't let this one lie" chuckled Lyn,33,as she cuddled newborn 7lb 13oz Ryan.

"Fancy me,a paramedic, having to have her baby delivered by her colleagues in the back of the ambulance!

"I was desperate to get to the maternity hospital, but in the end I had to have Ryan in the back of the ambulance,in the car park, with the crew helping out."

Lyn was at home on maternity leave when she started going into labour two weeks early.

Her husband Andrew,28,called the ambulance to their house.

Lyn's colleagues Steve Jackson and Frank Dominic arrived at 8.30am and they loaded her up and set off for Basingstoke, with husband Andrew in hot pursuit in the family car.

Unfortunately for Lyn,little Ryan was not willing to wait to get to the maternity ward at the North Hampshire Hospital.

Instead,he was delivered at 9.05am in the back of the ambulance with the help of Lyn's workmates Steve and Frank, and a hospital midwife.

Lyn,who has herself delivered four babies in her job, said "If only Ryan had decided to come into the world ten minutes later - I would be spared all this embarrassment!"

"My colleagues will never let me live this one down. When I get back to work, they will have an absolute field day.

"I was hardly very dignified, lying there gasping and groaning in front of them as I gave birth.

"But I have to say they were absolutely brilliant and professional.None of us like doing childbirth much at all!"

Lyn has been a paramedic for seven years and has a daughter,Hannah aged four.

Lyn says she is now enjoying her 22 weeks off with her two young children before starting work again in February.

"I kept saying to the hospital staff to take me inside for the birth, but they must have thought I was being silly.

"Little did they know it will be a long time before I live this one down at the station" she added.
