Little Owen Certainly Is Bouncing
Ouch! Little Owen Patel could certainly be described as a bouncing baby...he arrived weighing a ginormous 13lb 9oz!
The tremendous tot can already fill out the clothes and shoes of a baby aged nearly nine months.
Proud mum Hema says when he was in hospital, staff had to wrap him in a sheet because they did not have any nappies big enough.
Hema,a 28-year-old residential social
worker, said that after five hours in labour she decided to have a
caesarean.
"I am quite glad that I did,as the circumference of his head was 39.3cm!" she said.
Owen was born 11 days late, after two false alarms.
He spent his first few days in a special baby care unit because of the danger of his blood sugar level dropping and the fact that big babies are often more vulnerable than small ones.
His proud mum said she had a normal pregnancy - except for being "massive".
She added "When Owen was born he looked bigger than three months old - he was the talk of the ward."
His dad Brian Johnstone,34,an injection welder, added "They didn't have a nappy big enough so they had to put a sheet on him."
According to the doctor who delivered him,Owen is the biggest baby to have been born at the hospital for at least 12 years.
The average baby would be expected to weigh about 15lb 14oz at six months.
Hema, whose eight-year-old daughter was 9lb when she was born, says she hasn't been put off - she plans to have more children.
