Doggy Munches Owner's Amazing Mobile
It was billed as the scrap of the century.
In one corner,Andrew Jenner's mobile phone - which has survived a fall from a building,a washing machine spin cycle and even being run over by his 4x4 car.
In the other, his one-year-old,seven-stone pet labrador Fudge - the doggy destroyer, whose chewing habit has so far cost Andrew more than £2,000 in household repairs and clothing replacements.
"There was only even going to be one winner in that little battle!" Andrew said today at the family's home in Berks.
"The phone has taken a bit of a battering and survived, but I knew if Fudge ever got hold of it,then that would be the end."
Father-of-three Andrew,39,was far from suprised when he found the tattered remains of his once great Sagum mobile in pieces in the one-year-old chocolate labrador's bed.
"That phone had been through all sorts, but now it is a total write off.
"He chewed off the plastic face, the leather case and even the batteries and has wrecked it" said Andrew.
"The only thing about it which did amaze me is how he got hold of it in the first place as I left it on top of the microwave, which is some four feet off the ground."
Fudge's appetite has become legendary and his daily food intake includes items such as gloves, shoes, knickers, bin bags and garden fences.
"The dog destroys everything in the house. He dug up the lawn so badly that we had to have it re-done,and we had to have our carpets repaired after he bit through a container of shower gel and got it everywhere.
"He managed to destroy over £500 of newly-planted shrubs in just three nights, and I just couldn't believe it when he ate a bin bag.
"He ate it whole and it came out intact the
other end!"
Perhaps the most embarrassing momment came when they took Fudge round to a friend's house.
Fudge made strange noises, and coughed up a pair of women's knickers.
Last Christmas he ate all the baubles on the family's tree.
"I am amazed every time I clean up after him.Looking at what comes out is often the only what of finding out what has gone in" said Andrew.
Despite the family's efforts, the munching mutt is always eating something, and has even chewed his way through his own dog flap in the back door.
"We are baffled as to why he does it because he knows it is wrong" said Andrew.
"When we tell him off,he lies down and puts his paws over his eyes, which is very sweet, but is still no excuse."
Fudge is taken out for daily three-mile walks,so he certainly isn't bored, while his brother,Bruiser,is the very model of respectability.
"We have no idea what is the matter with him,but we all love him so much that we would never get rid of him for it.
"I guess we will just have to keep a better eye on things and make sure doors and cupboards are closed" sighed Andrew.
