Silly Swan Adopts Farmer's Flock

A swan with an identity crisis walked one-and-a-half miles to be with his adopted family - a flock of sheep.

George the swan refused to leave the ewes he had been grazing alongside when they were brought in to lamb.

He walked back to the farm with the flock and has since taken up residence in the farmyard.

Lambs Bill,Charles and Ben - who were born on January 13 - are believed to be among the first new arrivals in the country.

George spends all his time with them - and taps on the farmhouse door with his beak when he wants feeding.

Farmer Bill Raines said "We don't know where the swan came from.

"He was in a field grazing with the sheep for the last three months and when we brought them in because of the bad weather he came with them.

"He plodded all the way up to the farm, and we thought it was perhaps because he can't fly - but we've since found out that he can."
