Carnival Queen's Boyfriend Bust-up

A seaside town's carnival is in uproar again today after one of the attendants handed in her sash after a bust-up with the queen over a boyfriend.

Karina Holman has quit after falling out with local carnival queen Kelly Scott over their love lives.

Karina,22,said the row flared after she went out with one of Kelly's ex-boyfriends.

"They had finished,but she turned funny about it" said Karina,who works in a local restaurant.

"The carnival committee were a bit upset when I gave my sash back,but I told them that it was a time to enjoy and I was not enjoying it."

The Dorset resort's annual summer carnival has been dogged by controversy in recent years.

Last year's queen,Tara Webb,18,was sacked because she failed to turn up for the carnival duck race.

Three years ago carnival queen Gaye Saunders made national front-page news after she left her husband to move in with a lesbian lover.

Previous incidents involved one carnival queen contestant hitting a VIP over the head with her bouquet at the selection ceremony.

Karina has been a carnival queen attendant for the past three years.

She told carnival organisers shortly after this summer's crowning ceremony that the atmosphere had become so bad between her and Kelly that she could not continue.

She said in an official statement "There was a conflict of interests between Kelly and myself and I took the decision to step down as the attendant in the best interests of the carnival committee and myself."

Shop worker Kelly,18,issued a brief statement saying "We understand Karina resigned due to a personal reason and I have no further comment."

Kelly added that she was definitely going to carry on as carnival queen.

Carnival committee secretary Paul Bohane said the committee's only comment was that Karina had 'resigned for personal reasons'.
