Woman Shocked At Grave Pictures

A distraught woman has called for a village's Millennium book to be re-printed after discovering it included a picture of her mother's grave being dug.

Lesley Robinson said she and other family members had been left bitterly upset after the photograph of a grave digger at work.

Miss Robinson, from Shropshire, said her family offered a number of pictures of her mother Susanne's grave when the editors of the book appealed for a church scene.

But instead of using the submitted photograph,a picture of Miss Robinson's mother's part-dug grave was included in the book, she claimed.

The book,a Millennium celebratory project called K2K,cost more than £2,800 to produce and took four years for the local people to compile.

Sally Boot, chairman of K2K,said she had been given permission by Miss Robinson's father and sister to use the photograph.

She said that once she realised it was causing offence she wrote to the family apologising for its inclusion.

Mrs Boot said that the picture was taken to record the work of the gravedigger for the community publication, not to show a specific grave being dug,and no offence was intended.

But Miss Robinson said "I think the editors of K2K have no concern for other people's feelings.I think it is disgusting putting a photo of my mother's grave being dug."

Mrs Boot said it was too late to re-print the book although the photo had been withdrawn from an exhibition running alongside it.
