Dozy Bazil Makes It A Half Century

Bazil might be a monster carp but he isn't exactly the brightest fish that swims - he's just been caught for the fiftieth time in twenty years!

Anglers who keep catching and returning him alive to a Surrey lake know it's him every time because of the markings on his body.

He's been caught and photographed so often that he's become a celebrity.

He was given the name Bazil some years ago - perhaps because he comes hell for leather when bait is cast into the water,a bit like Basil Fawlty came running whenever his wife yelled.

When he was first caught in October 1980,he weighed in at just over 40lbs.

His latest captor was Englishman Mark Hunter,32,who weighed him in at 471b 8oz.

Bazil was moved to the lake as a juvenile from a Kent gravel pit in 1975 - when he weighed just 9lbs.
