Man Left Hooked By Front Door
A man returning home from the pub was left screaming for help after becoming impaled on a hook by his eyelid as he tried to get into his house.
The un-named 21-year-old was lucky not to loose an eye after he somehow got stuck on the piece of metal on his front door and was unable to free himself.
The bizarre drama unfolded in a village near Malmesbury,Wilts, when residents dialled 999 in the early hours after hearing a man calling "help me,help me".
PCs Allan George and Shaun Hunt, from Chippenham, went to the remote detached house where they found the distressed victim impaled by his left eyelid to the front door.
PC George said "Somehow this man had managed to hook his left eyelid in its entirety on to an old, rusty, metal cup hook screwed into the door about six feet off the ground.
"He was unable to move and had to stand on tiptoes to relieve the pressure on his eye.He was bleeding from the eye and running out of strength to stay in an awkward position."
The officers were unable to release the young man because of the position of the hook.
As they waited for an ambulance to arrive, the man complained of feeling ill and had to be held up by the officers as he fainted.
"After a few minutes, his weight began to become too hard to bear.Clearly we were very concerned as any unwanted movement would have torn his eye out" said Pc George.
"We managed to lift his body up higher and manoeuvre his head, fortunately releasing the hook first go."
The man was taken to Swindon's Princess Margaret hospital and was released shortly afterwards.
PC George said "We still have no idea how he got into such a position and nor did he.
"He indicated he had been calling for help for at least an hour before his neighbour heard the call and contacted the police."
A spokesman for Wiltshire police said although the man had been out drinking,he was not thought to be drunk.
