Sailor In 12-Hour Toilet Rescue

A lifeboat crew came to the rescue of a cross-legged squirming sailor who found himself unable to go to the toilet while sailing off the Isle of Wight.

The man from Essex was one of four crew members on board the Wavelength yacht five miles off the Needles who contacted the coastguards.

One of his crewmates reported the man had not urinated for 12 hours and was suffering from a swollen bladder.

A female doctor was assigned to the Yarmouth lifeboat and when she was safely on board the yacht she used a catheter to relieve the man's bladder.

Once the procedure was completed, the lifeboat and the doctor left the scene, allowing the yacht to finish her journey to the Isle of Wight.
