Shoe Firm Saved By Kinky Boots

A struggling shoe firm was saved from closure after a chance phone call inquiring about kinky thigh-length boots...for men!

Cobbler Steve Pateman was considering closing his 110-year-old business when the inquiry was made whether they sold male kinky boots.

The call came from a shop selling clothes for cross-dressers in Folkestone, who said there was a huge demand for such footwear.

According to Steve, because men have naturally larger feet than women,it is almost impossible for them to fit into normal kinky boots.

Steve, whose shop is in Northampton, said "I realised there was a huge gap in the market for this sort of thing.

"If the new footwear hadn't been such a success I would have had to shut the whole factory down.

"We had our biggest ever profit in 1996 and in 1997 we had our biggest-ever loss.Things have got much better since then.

"Generally, the shoe trade is in a dire state at the moment.I am probably one of the few lucky shoe manufacturers with something bright on the horizon.

"As long as the demand is there we will keep making them.

"If anyone has any suggestions for other kinds of footwear we will certainly look into them."

The firm's new Divine range includes court shoes, ankle boots, knee boots,mid-thigh and thigh boots made in various materials including pvc, leather, patent, and fur.

Heels can be as high as seven inches including a three inch platform sole.

But it is not just men buying them either.

At a fantasy exhibition in London, women with larger feet were also ordering pairs of the boots.

Earlier this year,16 people had to be laid off at the firm, which currently employs 25 people.
