Soccer Star Wants To Be A Race Ace

Aston Villa's new signing David Ginola is on collision course with chairman "Deadly" Doug Ellis over the dashing French winger's plans to become a racing driver.

The £3 million superstar - famous for his TV hair commercials - has revealed it is his ambition to drive 150mph touring cars.

Ginola was barred from racing by ex-boss Kevin Keegan when he was at Newcastle - and Ellis, infamous for ruthlessly sacking managers, has hinted he may slap a similar ban on the French star.

Ellis said "I will be having a chat with David about his racing."

But Villa manager John Gregory said "David can do whatever he wants as far as I am concerned.I don't have a problem with him racing cars or anything else he wants to do."

Ginola,33,has already tested for one top racing team and is keen to further his interest in the sport as he heads towards the end of his football career.

His agent,Chantal Stanley, said "David loves cars and racing and would like to turn professional. He has already tested for Renault and has done some promotional work for them.

"He is also aware of the dangers and would not take unnecessary risks. He loves his football and is keen to do well at Aston Villa."
